My Carlow Song
Authors: Brendan Harding, Paddy Delaney
Singer 1; Paddy Delaney

The topic of the resource
Paddy and Bernard sing their versions of the song about Carlow places that bring pride in place
Description
An account of the resource
Oh, to write a song like any man, that’s what I wish to do,
And to sing about the place I love in words both fine and true,
And let the one who has never seen the beauty of my home
Imagine in his nightly dream the place where I come from.
On Leinster’s mount above the vale are the nine stones standing proud,
A blackbird perched upon a rock his song he sings aloud
Where the tombs of kings and chieftains, they lie many on the land
From Borris to Rathvilly town; they were built by native hand.
Now the Barrow carves her course so wide through gentle rolling hills,
Her water giving life to lands as over rock she spills
Past Leighlinbridge and Muinebheag a-flowing to the sea;
Oh, the beauty of her riverside is a pure delight to me.
From Tinryland, Ballon to Clonegal you will find no better sights
And south to Ballymurphy beneath the Blackstairs heights,
At the abbey of Saint Moling where they bow their heads to pray
As the sun it rises o’er the hills at the dawning of the day.
In Carlow town her castle stands a beacon to her past
Of how a troubled nation has found its way to last.
Though blood was spilled upon her stones and children cried in pain
Now flowers grow among her halls in sweet free Irish rain.
Every child of God they surely love the place where they belong
And every corner of the earth is praised in its own song,
And my song is about the place where I was born and raised
For I love my County Carlow until my dying Days.
