This poem was brought back from St. Louis, America in 1922 by Elizabeth Doyle, mother of Eddie McDonald of Clonmore. It was printed in a local newspaper in St. Louis.
The theme captures the mindless brutality of the infamous Black and Tans during their time in Ireland; it helped to maintain support in america for the cause of Irish liberty from such a callous regime.
