Take Me Home To Carlow
Author: Declan Smyth

A child in me remembers
The factory at Strawhall
Bitter sweet the smell of beet
Like rock piles looming tall
Playing fields and friendships
Carved memories in stone
Warms a heart of distance
To know a love back home

Chorus

Take me home to Carlow
Down to Milford Lock
Watch the Barrow sweep the weir
The heron steal her stock
Feeds my dreams and memories
To see the young birds fly
Take me home to Carlow
The Blackstairs knows my mind

Boast about the Dolmen
To strangers passing by
Sing about the croppy boys
Why they lost their lives
History in the Castle ruins
The Celtic County’s pride
Feeds my children’s stories
With laughter love and joy
Chorus
Bridge
Take me home to Carlow
Give me wings to fly
Wrap your world around me
Sing your lullaby

Chorus,
Take me home,,,,,,

A lovely version of this song, sung by Nicky Kealy, can be heard on Youtube.
