Subject

I have roved through many an Irish scene; I have watched the sun go down
On Connemara's lofty hills and Killarney's lovely town;
I have viewed the hills of Donegal and the Glen of Aherlow:
But none compare to the tranquil scenes of my own County of Carlow.

From the peak of sweet Mount Leinster to the hallowed village of Clonmore,
To Milford and Old Leighlin and beautiful Rossmore,
I've viewed Hacketstown from Eagle Hill, I've watched the harvest moon aglow
Where first I drew the breath of life in my own County of Carlow.

The enchanted village of Clonegal and Clashganny's ancient mill,
The fighting Cocks, Ardattin and lovely Ballon hill;
I've seen the granite walls of Fenagh, and Myshall well I know:
All reflections of the beauty of my own County of Carlow.

I've strolled through sweet Rathvilly and historic Tullow town,
Ballymurphy, borris and St. Mullins, and dear old Bagenalstown.
I recall Tinryland and Rathoe and lovely Leighlinbridge,
St. Lazerian's old cathedral way up on Leinster's ridge.
Sweet Palatine and Carlow town are places we all know;
If you add them all together they form the lovely county of Carlow.
