The poem is a prayer to St. Fiacc who is remembered reverently as the bringer of Christianity to the Sleaty and Graigue region.

The poem carries on the ancient Celtic festival of imbolg, marking the rebirth of the year. Before the Church imposed the feast of St. Brigid the imbolg festival marked the rebirth of nature, under the mantle of the goddess Brigid, of Danú.

In this poem Martin remembers some of the sounds, smells and sights of early winter mornings as he walked Graigue (cullen) to serve at first mass.
