Lean Fionn le éad na leannáin óg ar rian na leapacha cloiche;
B’é Ogham an scríbhinn is luaithe, inscríofa ar bhata nó cloch;
Bhí cócaireacht do deoch no féasta déanta le cloiche dóite;
Tá scéal ár nanamacha ársa storáilte i gcnámh is cloch.
Curfá
Tá sé ‘nár gcnámha ‘gus ins na cloiche,
Faoi rún ins na cloiche;
Tá scéal ár gcroíthe uasal Gaelach
Scríofa ins na cloiche.
Thug draoithe adhraidh do Fionn an ór cúig mhílaois fadó,
Le ceiliúradh mór I leacht clocha d’á bhreithlà bliaintiúil
Ag árdú na gréine I lár geimhreadh I scrín Sí an Brú
Lasadh an scrín ó doras go croí le solas na gréine nua.
Curfá
Glach Cú Chulainn saol ró ghearr, ach cáil is clú go deo;
Mhair sé faoi bhrú, maith is olc, maireann sé I scéal is ceol.
Nuair d’éag an laoch na nGael, tar éis a shaol sealadach,
D’ainsigh fiach dubh a chorp geal greamaithe chun an cloch.
Curfá
Caomhnaigh na filí scéal na nGael in amhrán, scéal is seanchas
Scríobh na manaigh a lámhscríofa I mbotháin adhmaid uaigneach,
Ach do loscadh catha na botháin is scriosadh an seanchas:
Togadh cill is túr, cillín is boghaire le cloiche soladach.
Curfá
Togadh dúin na clainne Ceilteach in adhmaid, ní I gclocha,
Togadh túr Normánaigh cumhachtach le clocha buan, crua;
Le dlíthe Sasana I gcathair bhí ré Breihiúna thart:
An dúchas scriosta, an cultúr caillte ach i gcuimhne ins na clocha.
Curfá
Féach ar ‘The Secrets of the Stones’ do’n leagan Béarla
The druids worshipped golden Fionn five thousand years ago;
They marked his birthday every year in monuments of stone;
And when mid-winter morning sun peeped o’er the rim of gold
It lit the shrine of Newgrange stone right to the very core.
CHORUS
It’s in our bones and it’s in the stones,
It’s hidden in the stones.
The story of our Irish soul
Is written in the stones
CúChulainn chose a life so short, but long-term fame and glory.
He lived life well, he faced his hells, he lives in tale and story;
And when his time to pass came round, much sooner than for most
He died alone, the raven found him fastened to a stone.
CHORUS
Our Celtic bards kept history in song and tale and lore.
The early monks then wrote their books in timber huts, remote.
But huts were burned and lore forgot, we needed something more
So, Cill and tower, and cell and bower were built with solid stone.
CHORUS
The Celtic clans built dún and rath in timber, more than stone;
But Norman towers, a stronger power, used harder, lasting stone.
Then English walls maintained their laws, the Celtic way was o’er,
The people gone, the culture lost but minded in the stones.

Description
Is amhrán é England's Motorway faoin bhfear Éireannach as baile agus oidhreacht a thógáil i gcloch. Bhí cultúr na hÉireann ar cheann de thraidisiún béil agus rinneadh an chuid is mó d'fhoirgnimh sa ré Cheilteach as adhmad. Mar sin féin, bhí obair chloiche ar chaighdeán eisceachtúil ann freisin, smaoinigh ar na tuamaí pasáiste, na Dolmens móra, na crosa Ceilteacha, na túir bhabhta, na tithe túr, na caisleáin. Samhlaigh na scéalta a d'fhéadfaidís a insint faoinár stair agus ár sinsear; dá mbeadh a fhios againn conas leas a bhaint as 'rúndachtaí cloiche'!
England’s Motorway is a song about the Irish man away from home and building a legacy in stone. Ireland’s culture was one of oral tradition and most buildings in the Celtic era were made from wood. However, there was also stonework of exceptional quality, think of the passage tombs, the great Dolmens, the Celtic crosses, the round towers, the tower houses, the castles. Imagine the stories they could tell about our history and our ancestors; if only we knew how to tap into the ‘secrecies of stone’!
